Ultrasound – Accreditation

Ultrasound imaging does not fall under the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) of 2008 and frequently has few if any requirements from accreditation bodies such as TJC or local regulatory bodies.  As such, facilities providing ultrasound imaging are not required to seek accreditation.  However, many facilities voluntarily seek accreditation to improve their practice and set them apart from their competition.  Click HERE and HERE to learn more.  Additionally, facilities seeking the ACR’s Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) or Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) designations must pursue ultrasound accreditation.

The Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) designation is awarded to facilities who have achieved accreditation in all ACR accreditation modalities, participates in ACR database and registry programs, pledged to Image Gently® and Image Wisely®, and undergoes a site survey to evaluate specific areas of operational processes.  Click HERE to learn more.

The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.  These are Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Breast Ultrasound (including ultrasound guided breast biopsy, and Breast MRI.  Click HERE to learn more.

The team at Radiation Services, Inc. are trained and qualified to assist you with the accreditation process.
